The Raiders Cove project within the Physical Education Building repurposed an existing 6,500 square foot pool room which was under-utilized and in need of significant repairs to fix water leaks. The final configuration includes the Raiders Cove café, an exercise room, two storage spaces, and a 2nd floor electrical/data room.
The structural work was contained within the envelope of the existing pool room. A composite floor was placed at the pool surface to match adjacent floor levels. The framing system utilized structural steel and light gage bearing walls. The old deep end was attached to the adjacent basement to provide an additional room for basement storage. A two-storey space was created utilizing load-bearing light gage steel framing. The project utilized architecturally exposed, stained concrete to provide a low cost and durable industrial aesthetic.
